Some History first.
Last year, in October, we had to say goodbye to one of our close family. Our 14 year German Shepard finally lost her battle with time. Kosh had been a part of Mary and William’s life from the beginning. One of the first pictures we have of Mary in the house is with Kosh sitting right by her. She was truly a major part of our family, and we miss her.
Ever since then, there seemed to be a continuous parade of “I need a pet”. That ‘pet’ has ranged from another dog, to birds, to fish. I am not ready for another dog. I still see pictures on the TV and start break up.
So, when we went to the County fair, and Mary saw Games that would allow her to WIN a goldfish, things started again.
Now, as everyone knows that Fair games are more concentrated on removing money than actually winning, and true to form, Mary did not win. Daddy did not win. The meltdown began to build.
No, we aren’t going to keep trying until you win.
Meltdown was beginning to be visible from space.

Mary pulled her special weapon, and appealed to her Grandmother. A trip to the store, and a few hours later, Mary was trying her best to help move the goldfish from the bag into the bowl that seemed destined to be their new home.
One week later, the water was opaque.
Earlier today, after a second almost 70% water replacement we look like this:

Yes. There are TWO in there. No, this isn’t going to work. So, say goodbye to the old busted eco-system.
And below, we have the new home, soon to be inhabited. It’s bigger, it’s better, and with any luck what-so-ever, we won’t have the out of control biosystem issues, thanks to a much larger volume of water, and three stage filtration.

Now, we just have to wait a bit to allow the tank to stabilize, and move them over. Ideally, we’d wait 24 hours to move them, but given how bad the current tank is, I think the shock of the tank move is still going to better than keeping them there.
Maybe if this works well, we’ll talk about another dog.
